At least 177 people die in a fire disaster following a Boeing 737-800 Jeju Air flight crash on landing wit retracted gear, the South Korean fire agency says which makes it the deadliest Boeing 737-800 crash to date.
The Boeing 737 NG series is no stranger to crashes which happen regularly resulting in a climbing hull loss rate which is still not as high as the classic or the original series but it's growing and is likely to catch up soon at this rate, with the Boeing 737 MAX being the chief culprit and purveyor of bad news, while 737-800 disasters are rare by comparison.

Previously in this column:
Previous Boeing 737 crash which happened as recently as at end of November 2024:
A DHL Boeing 737 cargo plane crashes into a house on approach to Vilnius Airport, Lithuania, early today, at least 1 killed, Reuters reports.
Nature of the cargo is not disclosed at this point though the plane was consumed by an out-of-control fire.
This is hardly the first instance of a Boeing 737 either crash landing or exploding on landing.
In truth, it seems to be a familiar pattern of Boeing 737 behavior, thankfully, not that frequent but not rare either.
